Dear
JDT-
My 1600R was purchased in Rhode Island in skeleton form with most
of the woodwork completed by a professional woodworker. I brought
it home to Pittsburgh PA and went over it ensuring everything
was built to plans. It sat for a while, did some work on it, then
sat a a while again. It continued like this for a year or so,
then we moved to Florida, it was transported in a large moving
truck, gave the driver good money to do it. While we were down
Florida I continued working it, the wings got covered, stitched
and painted. Anyhow we moved back to Pittsburgh last month, was
able to obtain a hangar, which I wasn't able to in Florida. Anyhow
some advice would be buy the completed kit-this project "Nickeled
and Dimed" me to death. Always needing this or that and another
order placed to one of the major Aircraft Supply Stores, boy the
shipping really adds up. Another lesson learned is make sure you
rig the wings and test fit them before the plane is covered or
for that matter do what ever you need to do in the cockpit before
the wings are on, with the wings on it makes it very hard to bend
over into the cockpit area to do things. It is now ready for its
taxing phase, and will be flying soon. It comes in empty at 295lbs
CG is about 23%. There is some more trimming I want to do on the
paint but enough already I want to fly it. Please feel free to
pic your favorite pictures I sent you for your web page. And keeep
up the great work of keeping this great design alive and well!
